Melton Local Makes New Mental Health App, Sevn Clouds

Melton mother Brooke created Sevn Clouds, a simple app offering instant relief for anxiety and panic attacks.

"I was watching everyone around me, some of my friends and family go through the anxiety and stress,"

Anxiety attacks and panic attacks often strike without warning, leaving many Australians searching for ways to cope. Despite the growing availability of self-help resources, finding a simple and reliable app that provides effective support can be overwhelming.

For Melton local and single mum Brooke, addressing this gap became a personal mission. In December 2024, after four years of determination and perseverance, she launched Sevn Clouds - an app designed to be simple and provide immediate relief for those struggling with anxiety and panic attacks.

According to Beyond Blue, around 40 per cent of Australians have a panic attack once or twice in their lives. Brooke knows this feeling all too well. Having grown up in Melton, her journey to creating Sevn Clouds was shaped by both her personal struggles with mental health and the experiences of those in her local community.

Before the birth of her daughter in 2016, she struggled with frequent anxiety and panic attacks.

“I would hyperventilate, sometimes there would be heart palpitations, and I would struggle to breathe,” she said.

“Sometimes I would try to suppress how I was feeling rather than finding ways to cope. It would stop and start, and then it got better, but it would always come back in different ways.”

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Brooke moved to Queensland with her four-year-old daughter. "My anxiety went up again - then we moved to Queensland to get away from all of the craziness," she said.

"I was watching everyone around me, some of my friends and family go through the anxiety and stress," she said.

Seeing the impact of the pandemic on her community, both in Queensland and back home, the need to create a tool that could offer immediate relief for those struggling with anxiety and panic attacks grew.

After spending years away, she decided it was time to return to the Melton area - the places and people that had shaped her and inspired Sevn Clouds.

“Growing up around it and then going through COVID, I thought, ‘There needs to be more [apps] out there; there can never be enough,’” she said.

“It might be an audio, but I wanted it to be a hug as well - that’s what I hope the app can be for people,”

Brooke envisioned an app that could provide immediate relief without overwhelming users. The result was Sevn Clouds, a simple and intuitive tool tailored to moments of distress. The app features seven unique audio clouds, each offering spoken steps or soothing sounds to calm users.

Brooke says the app’s soft lavender colour and cloud graphics were inspired by her and her daughter's love of looking up at the clouds. “A cloud is fluffy and welcoming,” she said.

“I also wanted a colour that stands out and pops against other apps - so I picked that beautiful lavender colour.”

“Once you’ve signed up, you tap on one of seven clouds, and an audio starts playing to calm you down. It’s designed to be super easy - just two clicks,” Brooke explained.

The app’s calming tracks are recorded in Brooke’s own voice, offering a comforting presence to users. She also included a whispering audio cloud and a 432-hertz frequency music track, specifically designed to help those experiencing sensory overload.

“It might be an audio, but I wanted it to be a hug as well - that’s what I hope the app can be for people,” she said.

Developing the app wasn’t easy. Brooke faced financial and logistical challenges, outsourcing development overseas due to high local costs in Australia.

“It was stop and start. When you’re working, raising a child, and dealing with the fallout of COVID, money doesn’t exactly flow in,” she admitted.

“But whatever your dreams are, you’ve got to keep going. It may have taken me four years, but I still did it.”

“I want this app to remind people that they are not alone—your brain is so much more powerful than you think.”

The app is currently available on the Apple App Store, and will be available on the Google Play Store in the coming weeks. Priced at $1.99 per week after a one-month free trial, Brooke plans to use the subscription fees to expand the app, including more voice options.

“In future, I want to do a section where there’s an option for a male voice. My daughter also wants to do a voice-over to help kids,” she shared.

For Brooke, Sevn Clouds is more than an app - it’s a movement to foster openness around mental health. She hopes it will encourage more conversations, offer tangible support, and empower users.

“I want this app to remind people that they are not alone - your brain is so much more powerful than you think.”
